Historic Inspiration
The name of each of the Carrollton Inn’s thirteen rooms and suites was inspired by a facet of the life of Charles Carroll of Carrollton, the original owner of the neighboring Carroll Mansion. On his return to America in 1765, Charles Carroll is said to have identified with the radical cause at once, and he proceeded to work in the circles of American patriots. In 1773, Charles Carroll of Carrollton as “First Citizen” anonymously debated Daniel Dulaney in the Maryland Gazette in a series of articles protesting the right of the British to tax the colonies without representation. Carroll gained widespread support.
