Independence Suite (203)

203

The Independence Suite, a historic suite dating from the 1790s, is situated on the corner of Albemarle & Lombard Streets. With tall ceilings, burgundy walls, embroidered tan Austrian shades, and six windows overlooking the city draped with burgundy and tan patterned valances and curtains, this suite exudes romance and history. An original wood mantel frames the sitting room fireplace. A daybed affords additional sleeping accommodations or a quiet spot to lounge. The pink-veined marble bathroom features a lavish double whirlpool tub and separate shower. The master bedroom boasts French Bonaparte furniture and an opulent king-sized bed.

Historic Inspiration

The name of each of the Carrollton Inn’s thirteen rooms and suites was inspired by a facet of the life of Charles Carroll of Carrollton, the original owner of the neighboring Carroll Mansion. A force in the decision to declare independence from England, Charles Carroll of Carrollton served in 1774 and 1775 on the Annapolis & Maryland Committees of Correspondence and the Committee on Safety. Carroll was instrumental in rescinding the Maryland Convention’s anti-independence instruction. From 1776 to 1778, Carroll was a delegate to the Continental Congress and served on the Board of War.
